Arrow means jump to the entered site. When a site really loads, there is a star(bookmark) there.
So: someone only creates a simple html page, save it on his computer, load it in firefox, and replaced the ulr (like: file:///C:/fakeubi.html) with http://www.ubi.com

Google’s initiative, piloted in November, began with a handful of partner channels including PBS, Stanford University and National Geographic. It has now expanded to all uploaded English-speaking videos, with more languages to be added later this year.

With this news, Google establishes itself as a frontrunner in the Internet programming space. As a company built on search, search, and more search, Google is now able to capitalize on its investment in speech-to-text technology to index videos, target advertising and create an actual profit margin for YouTube. In fact, video search is likely why Google acquired YouTube in the first place.
The bigger news is that auto-captions will have clear benefits for the deaf and hearing-impaired population, who now will be able to better understand dialogue on uploaded videos. Up to now, this group had to rely on the goodwill of YouTube users to manually add captions to their videos. A time-consuming process, most users didn’t bother to do so.

At a press conference on Thursday, YouTube says accessibility is a key goal for the years to come. Even as Google touts a serious business purpose for auto-captions – search — it’s not hard to also believe in their commitment to making their products and services more usable for more of their customers.
Furthermore, Google is now removed from any ill will associated with Internet programming issues – such as the ones plaguing network and cable broadcasters. On March 17, the Federal Communications Commission will unveil a proposed broadband plan that is designed to ensure, or at least improve, equal access to Web TV and movie programming for people with disabilities, which could including requiring captions.

Meanwhile, a House congressional committee is mulling the Twenty-first Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2009 that would make captions for the deaf and audio descriptions for the blind into law for Internet broadcasters. The bill is backed by nearly 240 disability organizations known as the Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology.

TV broadcasters – unlike Google – already have transcripts available to them – either on paper or in the form of regular TV closed captions, which have been required for almost all programming since 1990. And ABC has publicly committed to captioning all long-form content – so the heat is on everyone else.

While YouTube videos are technically outside of the FCC’s realm, consumers don’t see it that way – and they shouldn’t. That makes Google’s auto-captioning move financially savvy, and buys them consumer altruism at a time when broadcasters are facing down a potentially ugly battle over access issues.

Ubuntu has been the "Flagship Linux" distro for quite a while now. This is the distro most people judge Linux by (although i personally use BackTrack). However, its visual style remained constant for a long time, and has been starting to look a bit stale. It’s difficult to convey "innovation" to end users when your product keeps the same look, version to version. There’s been a lot of talk of changing this, and yesterday Ubuntu finally announced their new look for Lucid Lynx, dubbed "Light". It includes a new logo (both light and dark), new theme (light and dark), bootsplash, and even logos for the Ubuntu forums, Xubuntu and other related projects. I’ve put up the theme and splash screen after the jump, and you can see more eye-candy on the announcement page itself.

The video was taken by Mashable staff at a live demo by creator Jason Holt at TED. Mr Holt, a software engineer at Google, first announced the project last year. “It was amazing to all of us how much more impressive Google Earth felt when we were surrounded by screens and able to turn our heads to look around (and even walk around),” he said. “It felt more like a ride than a computer program, something between an observation-deck and a glass-walled spaceship.”

Liquid Galaxy is the product of Google’s “20 per cent time” initiative which sees its engineers encouraged to pursue their own projects on company time.

A JPL scientist says we ended up losing 1.26 millionth of a second of a day, and that the magnitude 8.8 quake also shifted the axis around which the Earth rotates.

When a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck South America last weekend, the ground rumbled in Chile, the sea rose in the Pacific, and a day on Earth got shorter. Not by much. Earthlings ended up losing 1.26 millionth of a second of a day. You can’t sense it. Nor is your dog aware of it.

  But while other experts charted the shift of tectonic plates and the swell of ocean waters wrought by the quake, geophysicist Richard Gross mathematically calculated the temblor’s disruption of the length of the day. The thrust-fault quake — in which plates under the Earth’s surface moved vertically — caused mass to be redistributed, said Gross, who works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge. "On average, the mass of the Earth got a bit closer to the rotation axis," he said. As a result, Gross said, the planet rotates faster — "just like a spinning skater brings her arms in closer to her body to rotate faster." When the planet rotates faster, the day shortens, he said. Gross studies the Earth’s rotation and how it is affected by cataclysmic forces of nature. "Anything that moves mass around on the Earth I take a look at," he said. And it takes a mega-earthquake to attract Gross’ attention.

The magnitude 6.7 Northridge earthquake didn’t even register on the scale of throwing off the Earth’s rotation. "I didn’t look at that earthquake," he said. "It takes something like the Chilean or Indonesian earthquake before I look at it." This earthquake also shifted the axis around which the Earth rotates, Gross said. Although the Chilean quake shortened the day by 1.26 microseconds — the unit of time for millionths of a second — the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake that triggered the catastrophic Asian tsunami shaved 7 microseconds off the day, according to Gross’ calculations. Will our biological sleep clocks notice? Circadian rhythms can be affected by even a shift in minutes, said Michael Terman, director of the Center for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms at Columbia University Medical Center. "Circadian biology . . . is indeed sensitive to the Earth’s rotation, but a change of 1.26 microseconds won’t have significant impact — I hope!" Terman said.

Of course, losing just 1.26 microseconds a day takes a couple of millenniums to add up to one single second of lost time. (2,174 years to be more precise.) Gross suggests it’s not worth tallying that way. "It takes a lot of these big earthquakes to add up to even a second," he said. Far from evoking that textbook illustration of a smooth round ball of continents and blue oceans, Gross describes Earth as a planet of unevenly distributed mass wobbling as it rotates, imperfectly balanced, around its axis, its physique woefully pear-shaped. "It’s a bit fatter south of the Equator," Gross said. "The Earth is not completely elastic. It’s kind of like putty," he said. "If you have a sudden shock to it, it will continue to deform later in response to that shock."

March 4 (Bloomberg) — Activision Blizzard Inc. was sued by the executives who created the “Call of Duty” franchise, after the video-game publisher fired them on “false” insubordination charges to avoid paying royalties, according to their complaint.

Jason West and Vince Zampella, who co-founded Activision’s Infinity Ward studio, sued the company in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, claiming breach of contract and wrongful termination. They seek at least $36 million and control over “Modern Warfare,” a subset of the “Call of Duty” combat games, according to a copy of the complaint.

Activision, the world’s largest video-game company, conducted a “pretextual” investigation to fire the Infinity Ward co-heads and avoid making a royalty payment due on March 31, according to the complaint.   “Activision terminated their employment weeks before they were to be paid substantial royalty payments as part of their existing contracts for ‘Modern Warfare 2,’” West and Zampella’s lawyers at O’Melveny & Myers LLP wrote in a statement.

Maryanne Lataif, a spokeswoman for Santa Monica, California-based Activision Blizzard, declined to comment on the suit. The company said in a March 1 regulatory filing that two senior executives who led “Modern Warfare” were leaving and said it was investigating insubordination and breach of contract.

The company said on March 2 that it formed a new unit to run the “Call of Duty” franchise, naming Philip Earl to lead the unit.

West and Zampella oversaw creation of the World War II video-game “Call of Duty” and “Modern Warfare” sequels set in later periods. “Call of Duty” titles have generated about $3 billion in revenue, Activision said in its 2009 annual filing.

Activision’s top-three titles, “Call of Duty,” “Guitar Hero” and “World of Warcraft,” accounted for 68 percent of Activision Blizzard’s $4.3 billion in revenue last year, it said in the filing.

Activision rose 16 cents to $10.97 yesterday on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The shares have lost 1.3 percent this year.

The case is Jason West and Vince Zampella v. Activision Publishing Inc., SC 10741, Los Angeles Superior Court, California.

Earlier this month, Skype announced a partnership with the mobile carrier Verizon to make a similar smartphone app for select BlackBerry and Android phones on Verizon’s network. It would seem as VoIP applications spread across more mobile devices, service providers must warm up to the idea that data plans will replace voice as the main source of revenue. Skype already runs on the iPhone over WiFi only, although a 3G-enabled version is expected soon. The company said "soon" it will update the Symbian app so that it will work on Symbian mobiles from other manufacturers, including Sony Ericsson. ®

To detect the different degrees of smiles by your subject, you can set Smile Level sensitivity to “high” (to detect a faint smile), “medium” (for a normal smile), or “low” (for a hearty laugh).

While this sounds like a very interesting feature, I don’t smile. The batteries will die in the camera and the earth will turn to dust before I do. Smiling is for the weak. Showing that much emotion in a photo basically means your mom dresses you and you’re a monster sissy.

 1. Go to sleep at about the same hour every night, your body will get used to this and it will prepare itself for sleep.

2. Don’t do any exercises at night because they pump the blood and you’ll not be able to fall asleep.

3. Don’t eat and don’t drink a lot before going to sleep. Dinner must be light and it would be best eaten at least 2 hours before bed time. Digestion delays the sleep and it disturbes it.

4. Avoid nicotin, alcohol and caffeine for at least 5-6 hours before going to sleep. Those stimulents can keep you awake at night.

5. Sleep only during the night. During day time, rest for one hour maximum and don’t ever sleep after 3 p.m.

6. Keep your sleeping room well aired and if it’s possible leave a window slightly open during the night.

7. Before going to sleep go take a warm bath or a reassuring shower, read a book or listen to your favorite music. It will help you fall asleep for sure !

8. Try to apply some moisturizing cream on your shoulders, neck and soles of your feet. You’ll relax in no time and the tension accumulated over the day will disappear.

9. Don’t appeal to drugs or any kind of medicine in order to combat your insomnia. A glace of warm milk or tea, sweetened with honey will help you do the trick.

10. During the night sleep, try to keep your feet on a soft pillow, this will make the tiredness go away and you’ll get a very nice night sleep.
