Apple Inc. has signed its first deals with mobile phone operators to offer its iPhone in three of Europe’s largest markets, ending a period of intense negotiations, according to a report in the Financial Times newspaper. Germany’s T-Mobile Deutschland GmbH, France’s Orange SA and Britain’s O2 (UK) Ltd. are reported to have signed exclusive deals to sell the iPhone in their respective markets.

The operators have agreed to give Apple 10 percent of the revenue they generate from the sale of voice and data services for the device, according to the report, which cited unnamed sources. The operators hope to introduce the phone in time for the important Christmas shopping season.

Anyone looking at building a new desktop system should not look any further than Intel Core 2 processors, and when time comes to pick a platform you should have Intel’s own P35 chipset in mind as it officially offers 1333MHz FSB support and will be compatible with upcoming 45nm processors. This translates in a fairly ‘future-proof’ platform, with some models currently available supporting DDR3 memory already. But as new as this chipset is, deciding that you want a P35-based motherboard is not enough. Most major manufacturers have already launched several different models powered by the chipset, to give an example, ASUS currently offers a dozen motherboards models all based on the Intel P35.

We have rounded up some of the better examples available for one big article where we shall compare them side by side. Although we have nine motherboards to compare, they come from just four different manufacturers: Abit, ASUS, ECS and Gigabyte. These boards range from $90, all the way up to $230.

Corsair Memory has quietly, as these are not the industry’s first modules at the new speed bins, announced its 1600MHz and 1800MHz DDR3 memory modules. The new Corsair Dominator DDR3 memory modules come as 2GB dual-channel kit and can operate at 1800MHz with CL7 7-7-20 with a 2V voltage setting. Corsair’s modules can currently claim highest performance among ultra high speed memory offerings, as products at similar clock-speeds from Cellshock, OCZ Technology and SuperTalent feature higher timings, which means lower performance.

The new Dominator products from Corsair are equipped with advanced heat-spreader that cools both memory chips and print-circuit board. In addition, Corsair Memory also revealed XMS3 memory modules operating at 1600MHz with CL7 7-7-20 timings with 1.9V voltage. Even though both PC3-14400 and PC3-12800 memory modules from Corsair feature interesting combinations of clock-speed, latency settings and voltages, they are unlikely to become popular overnight even among enthusiasts simply because of the lack of additional performance provided by DDR3 over DDR2. Pricing of the new Corsair Dominator DDR3 and XMS3 memory modules was not released.

CORPORATE PROFILE

The year was 1986. Starbucks had only a few stores. Don Johnson was actually cool. The average PC had less memory than today’s cellphones. And in Fremont, California, a little company named Antec was born. Antec’s first employees never imagined that their upstart firm would rise to the very top of the high-performance computer components industry. But rise it did. And rather swiftly, too.

We’re headquartered in Fremont, California, with additional offices in the Netherlands, Europe. We’ve also established distribution partnerships throughout Australia and Southeast Asia. So you’ll find Antec products in over 25 countries. But no matter how large we grow, we’ll never forget our mission: to give you the power you need to create the computer you really want. That’s the Antec way. That’s the Power of You.

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Antec continues development of its popular “Performance One” chassis line with the introduction of the P182 chassis. Almost two years ago we had the opportunity to take a look at Antec’s P180 chassis (see the review HERE) and we were very impressed. Antec has a great reputation to protect and seems to listen to what customers in its markets are looking for. The P180 was a very nice case, targeting the quiet PC enthusiast that didn’t want to sacrifice great cooling. Let’s see what improvements and upgrades Antec has made to this platform to make the P182 a worthy successor to the P180.

If Apple had held an iPhone design contest, this is what the device could have looked like — iPhone V.2 ?

In the future, robots may replace your cat, ones that can “playback audio, photo and video content from multiple sources such as PCs, Internet or other storage devices.”

iCat

The Philips iCat robot “interacts with the user in a natural way by understanding spoken requests, giving replies, recognizing faces or everyday objects and by using body language such as facial expressions, nodding and other head movements.” iCat can playback audio, photo and video content from multiple sources such as PCs, Internet or other storage devices. Its intelligence is made possible by an advanced software architecture.

Household Cat

This realistic cat robot made its debut at the 2006 Tokyo Toy Show and is looking to give all robotic pets a run for their money. It’s quite interesting to say the least.

Dynamizer’s Robotic Cat

Dynamizer demonstrated their robotic cat at the “Kondo KHR-1 Second Anniversary Celebration”. Strangely enough, the cat uses a bicycle headlight as its head/face. The robot’s legs have a basic cam design that enables it to move around in a very cat-like fashion. The legs are identical for each side, and mirrored for the opposite side. The four servos that drive the legs also form the cat’s body, while another servo mounted on top of the front pair of leg servos provides up and down motion for the robot’s head.

Pussy Cat: Robot Meets Mobile PC

The “Pussy Cat” mobile PC “can be a good home monitor and would have fun in role play with distant friends. A self-feeding system, automatically charges the device.” As a Personal Computer, all basic tasks: watching video, listening music, playing game, surfing internet, instant messaging, email, reminder, alarm, etc. As a Pussy Cat, an A.I. 4-legged robotic cat can move around home. It has face recognition technology that let it remember who is master.
